I've seen these heads with the colour insignia selling for $50US ... now this is a great deal! Thanks!
As for the switchblade ... it sounded very cool until I saw the size of it on that DIY page. Now I think the coolness is outweighed by the size factor. Isn't the one for the beetle much nicer?

Pelican has them and has had them for that price. Check 'em out.

For those thinking about buying the lighted key head. I just got mine and it will cost you $12.43 at the dealer for the key blank. That brings the total cost up to around $25. I like it a lot better than the generic blank I had, but I wonder if its worth $25.

Got my flip key and I must say it's pretty cool. Cost $5 to have the key cut and it works like a champ. The unit is not too big and I find it very convenient.
All told it came out to about $60 apiece for 2 of them with my Porsche rebate coupon.

i got my key the other day, its fun to play with, a little big but not too bad. now i just need an alarm to wire into that second button, or atleast get it to pop my locks for me.
the fact that it seems to be made for left hand operation (the ignition is on the left in the 911s right?) makes it a little wierd though.
ram_one: thanks again!

Anyone else out there that still has there $100 gift certificate that would like to go in with me for one of these keys.
Stupid me throws away the certificate thinking that I will never go to a dealership to buy anything.

Hello Everyone,
After 10yrs I'm hoping to put some life in this old thread by asking for an image of the finished product.
Any newer sources to make this happen now?
eBay has a few different generic cases but not sure which case will fit our 944 blades.

Mate,
I've looked at the flip key and also at having it programmed to work with my aftermarket RKE.
So far china based companies can make the flip key fob that can hold our key posts, and have them set to either 315mhz or 435mhz.
Dramas..... can only buy like a minimum of 150 @ $10US each.
The internal hardware is temperamental and some times skips its code sequence with the RKE main box which you have to reset.
I looked at this last year and haven't bothered with it since, you can get better FOB's from other sources on the net but I haven't try'd them. From what I can remember is that Porsche hasn't changed the key point securing end... so the metal bit inside the plastic key head.... until I think 2005. So you could buy say a used key fob from http://www.remote-superstore.com/web...p?cat_path=108 for example and the key tip/blade will fit but the buttons will be useless unless you get it retro fitted with your RKE internals.
Not sure if I've made any sense, or if it helps but hope it does something.
