I have a question: What do you use to tighten/torque these bolts?

I know it's not a cheesehead bolt, but it surely doesn't look like a hex head either. Is there some special socket required and available?

I haven't installed mine yet to know for sure, but they should take a regular 12 point socket.

That is correct, it's just a basic off-the-shelf 12-point 8mm socket. I would strongly recommend using a high quality fresh socket, not one that's been worn or an el-cheapo with poor tolerance. Also, the guys at Stage8 mentioned to me that a 5/16th socket is about .03" smaller than 8mm and can also be used for a more snug engagement if desired.

I like the idea but am concerned about getting them off if the triplesquare head rounds out. Regular cheeseheads can be drilled.

Anyone figured this out? Thanks.

You can drill these out the same way. But the point is that the risk that these bolt heads rounds out is very, very little compared to the stock bolts

^+1, agreed. These bolts are grade 12. It is at least as likely that you'll damage the socket as the bolt. Just use a good quality socket that provides full head engagement. If you're really concerned, then try the 5/16th socket as Stage8 suggested.

Also, a quick update...for those of you that ordered extra bolts, clips and retainers, your extras are mixed in with the full set. If you open up the boxes you just received, you should find your extra bolts, clips, and snap rings.

The reason for this is that when Stage8 filled the order, they just sent me 90 sets of bolts, and haven't yet sent any of the extras I had ordered. As a consequence, I had to break up a couple of full sets to make the "spares" sets that some of you ordered.

Stage8 will be sending me the rest of the stuff in the next bulk shipment to make up for the kits I had to break up. When I spoke to them yesterday evening, they were still grooving the bolts in the second batch, but expected to be able to ship out by Friday or Monday at the latest.

Hi,

Two questions: How much is shipping to Europe? And am I likely to still be able to order these in 6 months' time? (I like the look of these, but I don't think I'm buying any non-essential bits for a coupla months...)

I can ship 1-2 sets to Europe in a small flat rate box for $14.50. There will be no problems with availability moving forward. We will be launching a second round group buy this week that will run through 15 April 2010 at the same price points listed in the OP. The group buy price is $79.50 per set of 24, normal price is $106 per set of 24.

That sounds very reasonable! After twice having four bolts fall out (at which point the remaining two snapped), I'd feel much happier using these.

Since these have been refered to as triple square in a few posts, its probably worth mentioning that these are not triple square fasteners, so they do not take a triple square socket. Yes, both these (double hex) and triple square have 12 points, but the angle between flats on these fasteners are 120° not the triple square's 90°

This group buy is now closed. Will be starting up a second round thread shortly. I will continue to post updates here for participants of this group buy. Inquiries regarding the second round should be posted in that thread, which I will cross reference once it's up an operational.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who's participated. I expect the remaining orders to arrive next week, and will do my best to ship them out ASAP once I receive them

Good news! The remainder of the order arrived on my doorstep this afternoon, so I will be working tomorrow and Friday to get the rest of these packaged up and shipped out. My goal is to have everything dropped off at the post office by Friday.

If you missed round one, round two is ongoing thru 15 April.
