Group Buy (CLOSED): Stage 8 locking CV bolts
#136
I have a few specific questeions that I can't see answers to.
Supplier questions
1. Are the threads rolled or cut?
2. What is the tightening torque?
3. What is the ultimate torque, ie the Torque value that breaks the bolt?
The answers to the above will establish once and for all if these bolts generate a better or worse clamp than factory, ie the primary function of the bolt.
Our cars Question
4. On the late cars with the aluminum trailings, is there enough room in the stub axle cavity to get the plates and spring clips in?

Just spoke with Stage8, we are expecting the first shipments to be sent to me sometime next week. We have one or two priority orders that were communicated to me early on, so those folks will be at the top of the list. Otherwise, we will ship out more or less in the order that payments were received.
Also, we received sample bolts for the 911 and 928 applications this week, as well as sample nuts in M8 and M6 sizes to test fit for header bolt and fuel rail applications. My intent is to set up a second round which will include these additional items, once we've confirmed fitment, probably some time around the beginning of March, so stay tuned!

I spoke with Stage8 today. The first batch of 60 sets were scheduled to ship out last Friday, but they weren't happy with the fitment of the D-style retainers, as they were a bit too snug for easy installation. Rather than risk unhappy customers or returns, they chose to re-do the batch of D-style retainers. As a consequence, the first order won't ship out until later this week. I'll post an update as soon as I hear more.

Didn't see this one until now, that's what I get for not spending enough time on Rennlist
I'm in for the next round if the bolts can be here before April.
PM sent in a sec

same here.. I'm new on the board (hello!), just did one driveshaft and remembered how annoying those old bolts are. I've pretty much run out of decent ones! So, if there are any plans to order up another batch, I'd definitely be interested. I'm UK-based though.

If you need a set right away, the best option is to go ahead and order them from my site. We're currently running a 10% discount on these (and a few other select items). Otherwise, I'm planning to run another group buy beginning the second week of March. It will take at least a month for that buy to run it's course, so I wouldn't expect round 2 to be delivered until mid-April at the earliest.
You can order here:

The 10% discount will be applied in your shopping cart.
PM me if you have any follow up questions.

I spoke with Stage8 yesterday afternoon. They are still stamping the D-clips (as noted above, they were not happy with the first run, so they had to order new stock and redo the retainers). They are now saying they expect the first 50 orders to ship out to me on Wed or Thu of this week. I will post updates here in this thread as soon as I have notification that they're shipping.
Now, to be clear, I will be receiving multiple shipments totally nearly 3000 bolts so when they get to me in MI, I have to assemble everybody's orders. I will work as fast as I possibly can to get these orders turned around. Just be aware, this is not my day job, and I do have some travel this week and next that I will have to work around. But I will do my best to get the orders shipped as quickly as I possibly can, once the hardware has arrived in MI.

Thanks for the updates. I, like most probably, can wait a little while for the kits to show up.
Take your time and make sure the quantities are correct instead of rushing to get them out the door quickly.
You might even want to make up a jig to hold all the parts of the kit. (Holes for the bolts and a dowel cut to the height for all the retainers) this way there is no counting.
You might also be able to weigh the completed kits to weed out units with an over or under fill, but the individual retainers might not have enough mass to make this accurate enough.

Also, I just noticed that in the process of removing my transaxle, that the clamping bolt for the shift rod is safety wired. A single safety bolt replacement not requiring safety wire would be a nice idea for an additional kit.
