Default New here looking to get into a 951

Finally decided what car is worthy enough for my Ls1/t56, why not the almighty Porsche!
I'm going to be looking for a roller chasis or one with a blown motor. How are the rear ends in these cars? i'll be doing a lot of research, Dougs951 told me this was a great place to start!

Not to sideline your project, but if you are considering an LSX swap and you like 944's, also check out RX7s. I'm building an LS3 RX7 right now. They are every bit as capable as a 951, but with better interior and cheaper parts which are easier to find. You can also use the t56 in the RX7. If not, then stick with the 951's, and like Xsboost said, those two trannies are your best bet.

Yes RX7 would be a better choice. Now go away.

Try looking for an FD shell....if you want to put down any power, FC's can't wear crap for a tire. Although a few people make it work. Not to mention FD's look so much better.

pay no attention to him he's just jealous...

if you want to do some research on the ls1 swap. head over to http://944hybrids.forumotion.com/
this is where we reside these days, and there's a lot of great info there. The LS1 944 is a great car (as is the LT1 like i have, just a little different obviously)
you're chevy trans won't fit, but a 951 rear end will hold up very nicely to a stock(ish) ls1, so don't worry about that unless you're planning on pushing 600 horsepower and tracking it...heck my n/a box with 216,000 miles has held up fine for the last few months with a 400 horsepower LT1 up front.

Feel free to pm me with questions if you have any,
Ethan Cooper

Here's a potential 951 candidate with a blown motor:

@lovemyp-car,
Nope, I'm just one of those folks who doesn't appreciate putting big honking engines in cars that are perfectly good just the way they are. Its the antithesis of what the I4 engined cars were all about, more from less.

I know its unhelpful of me to post but I just like to take a jab at the conversions every once and a while, just to show my disdain.

oh i know i know, i used to want to keep my car original, but instead of putting thousands and thousands into it to completely rebuild the engine (which it was going to need soon) as well as all new belts, rollers, wp...etc, i decided to try to make the car more than it was before...to me that is. I don't care about what other people think about how it looks, or that i put a big old chevy v8 under the hood of a "classic" porsche, i care about the feeling i get when i put my foot against the long skinny pedal on the far right...that's what my passion is about...and obviously your passion is of a very different nature.

I was jesting of course, no harm intended!

Yea he is a true gear head and loves the look of the 944/951 cars. IIRC he has a ls engine already. A meet would be good. If he doesn't check back here I will get in touch with him. I am trying to setup a meet/BBQ in the late spring with all of the pcars in the area...

If you're like 90% of the people who ask about this, you're probably into drag racing

In which it would be better to look elsewhere, our cars were designed for "real racing'

good luck!
