Post Anybody know a quick way to tell if wheels are factory?

Is there an easy part# reference system for figuring out of wheels are porsche OE or Mille knock offs? Something stamped on the wheels?

I think all "Mille knock offs" have "Made in Italy" stamped on them. Mine do.

Stamped next to the p/n and offset, or separately? I'm just being cautious as I'd hate to get taken buying a set on ebay or something...

how about the porsche part #? do replicas also have it? What about the weight? I've read replicas are heavier.

That's my concern...the stock weight for the 17" cup I and II wheels is within half a pound of the stock 951 clubsports despite the extra diameter, and I really don't want to get suckered into paying up for a set of rims that is weaker, heavier, and worth a lot less imho...

Porsche part number will only be on a porsche wheel. MM's won't have p-car part numbers on them.

I concur with ninefiveone. When I was looking to buy a set of 17" C2T ("Cup 1") wheels for my 951, I asked the people at Wheel Enhancement (Culver City, CA) about the difference between factory wheels and replicas, since the price variation was so great.

They responded that although both were made in Italy (probably at the same foundry), the factory wheels were made of a lighter alloy and also had part numbers stamped on the inside, whereas the replicas were heavier and had no part numbers. In my case it was particularly tricky to get a factory set, because I wanted 17" C2Ts in 7.5" inch widths (optional on 968 and 928 GTS), which are more rare than 7", which was the 911 size. Consequently, cars with 7.5" C2T fronts generally have replicas.

When I got my wheels (17" factory C2Ts in 7.5" fronts and 9" rears) they were indeed marked as I had been told, with "Made in Italy" and the factory part numbers. I weighed them and they were in fact lighter than the weight references I had for the replica wheels.

You can check different wheel weights at:

if im not mistaken, dont factory wheels have a j after one of the dimensions. like 7j x 15. that should be stamped on the back of one spoke. could be wrong though...

You will have the model number stamped on the inside of the wheel on factory wheels. It will start with the model number of the car they were made for. ie. 993.xxx.xxx

What is the going rate for a set of used replica cup wheels? I would love to have a set of these, I don't care if there replica since I don't track the car (except for the casual autoX) and am not concerned with the weight.
