hey tim,
for the 86, i only had to slide the seat all the way back to expose the bolts at the front of the seat rails. then slide the seat all the way to the front and get at the bolts at the back of the seat rail. voila, you're done and the carpet stays in. hope that applies for yours too.

I bought some regular seats from Hammbone here on rennlist. He got rid of them for sport seats.
I don't think my seats slide far enough anymore to expose the seats.

Alright guys, I went back out to try again and I got the drivers side out. It wasn't easy because I couldn't find a ratchet that could get enough clearance but then my dad found me something and I got 1 of 2 out. Man, its pretty gross under there, tons of change too. I will have to continue later on because I have to go to school for a meeting.
Thanks for the help.

Tim, the "right" tool seems to be a set of metric ball-end allen wrenches. Use the non-ball end to break the bolt loose (ball end may strip the internal hex), then use the ball end to turn it out.
Before you start, be sure to a) clean out the hex, and b) get the end of the tool seated _all_ the way into the bolt.
Penetrating oil of your choice may also help, even after you've got the bolt started loose; the threads seem to get extra-cruddy on these bolts.

Be real careful threading them back in, they can strip and be a real pain. I used the hex socket and two knuckles.
I know what you mean about finding crud under the seats. I had my car for over a year, had cleaned it very frequently, thought I was doing a pretty good job... Pulled out the passenger seat to find A BIG ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT CAR PHONE! The thing was the size of a shoe!
Strange when you start going where few have gone before...
Keep the shiny side up,
