Just bought a '83 Guards Red 944
Hey guys,
I just bought my first Porsche so I thought I would go ahead and introduce myself as well as my car.
She is a 1983 Guards Red N/A 944 5-speed with 112k. I picked her up for $1850 (plus a 36 hour drive straight from Memphis TN to Denver CO, then back) on eBay. She's got a couple cosmetic problems but runs good and has a good interior.
Things on the list to do right now:
Fix the drivers door handle (heard that is a pretty common thing)
Replace/repair the passenger's rear quarter panel (any suggestions on this?)
Repair the drivers rocker panel (or on this?)
Buy/Install a new seal for the roof and reattach the headliner in that area
Then just some other misc things that I'm sure will be popping up while I work on it.
Any input/tips/comments would be appreciated!
Here's some pictures for you guys:
I also found something that I couldn't identify. Its the little black plastic thing that looks like it was at one time mounted to the fender, but has now broken and is being held by a cable-tie. Here's a picture.

Low miles and a decent looking purchase.
You'll put alot more money into it for sure so good luck with it and keep us up to date.
I just got mine a week ago and couldn't be happier with it.

Thanks for all the comments guys.
That would make sense. This car has alot of cut/loose wires under the dash that I'll be tracing and pulling/fixing soon and am sure that is one of the things that will come up. She also has a sticker from a alarm company on the drivers rear window so it very well could be from that.
Yes I'm sure I will be. I'm planning on getting that quarter panel and rocker panel (as well as a hole in the drivers floorboard) fixed before I drive it.

Double welcome since it is your first 944-look decent will need TLC but the engine bay look clean witch is a + .May I ask if you got records of TMB -BSB & water pump being done recently, if not it should be your ASP job. Agree with parker must be an aftermarket alarme system, but very poorly done. Your rigth ritzblitz & very important about that green vacum canister it's connected to the brake booster an it's an early car featurs (82-83) not sure about 84,do not discard it because very hard to find & not listed anywhere that I know off.I remove mine to paint it black & reinstall it rigth away, I'm sending pic of were the canister line connect into the brake booster.good luck wrenching laptop

In later cars it's between the battery and the blower motor - actually, that's where it was in my EARLY '85. I think the area where cruise control often goes is where we see it on the '83 and '84 models. I believe it stores vacuum for the HVAC system (at least for the lates with their vacuum-controlled HVAC).
The black thing zip-tied to the vacuum reservoir is some aftermarket alarm horn. Hopefully your PO didn't hack the wiring too much!

Funny tidbit...he says to 'Farmer Ted' that his car was a stick shift, so he had to take the Rolls Royce...yet at the end when he meets up with him outside the church (with the drunken ex), he pulls it down into gear to drive away and park...looking like its an automatic.
