Post David Floyd and engine builders: RE Knife Edge

David -

What do you think of the work on your crank? I am seriously pondering sending out mine for a knife edge since I have all the other work done to it.

For you builders, how much to knife edge/balance? How quick can you get it back to me?

Thanks all!

I would like to add to this just for me to know for future. For a street car I would assume that it would be better to knife edge the crank to prevent from foaming the oil then do not use a lightened flywheel so the car dosen't rev down to easy. Dose that sound right?

This picture is all I have seen, the oilpan was already sealed ( per my request )

Having a little pic trouble, follow the p-car online link in my signature for pics.

It sure is a LOT more fun putting this baby back together.

Perry:

Try CCR for the crank work. He is reasonable on the costs. Sorry, I do not have the phone # handy at the moment. He ads in Excellence.

I did not do the knife edge lightening since it was primarily a street car. Many opinions on that one.

Did you get my post about the Raceware crank stud kit?

850.00 US for a fully worked crank. knifed, lightened, balanced, tested for straight...etc..etc...

About a one week turnaround from when we recieve yours, or we could do the core charge thing and get one of ours out to you asap.

Okay- Stupid question- what is the part on the pic (SHAUN) that sticks up w/the mesh-like end? It looks like it's bolted on at the lower left of the pic, and sticks up above to the upper left- that's where the mesh-like end is... I don't know much about what some fo these parts look like, as I've never seen many of them out...

Man... $850 is rich for a knife edge. There is a local shop here that does mostly GM work, and will do it for $400 with a gaurantee. A crank is a crank, but I thought I would stay in the community.

A core won't work since it is already cross drilled, nitrided, and micro polished.

Gonna keep shopping. Perhaps it won't get done after all.

Calling Raceware tomorrow. Thanks!!

I opted for the crank work on the motor John Anderson is building for me at the moment. Motor will be a stock 2.5 rebuild except for the crank and lightened flywheel, so should be easy to discern any performance differences. I neglected to ask him how much they take off the crank tho. Some places like Huntley take off 17 pounds !! while CCR takes off 14.

I'll be anxious to post my impressions... that is if i can put my car back together !
