Could I sell this for $1.5k?
Hey 944 peeps check this out. A customer is asking to trade in his '87 944 that he got from his dead uncle. 160k, starts and drives ok, goes around the block sorta ok. Has recently been driven 250 miles roundtrip with no issues. Rough baby, oh yeah she needs love! Not a complete basket case though. Perhaps worth saving, maybe a track or parts car.
Would someone here pony up $15-hunny for this pup? I won't mess around with it if not.

Thanks~

That is a sad sad statement, and I totally agree.
The value of our cars has plummeted. There are very nice 944 NA's out there, that don't need anything to run everyday, for $2.5 and $3k.
I think a mint condition example would only get $5k......
I would say that one would only fetch a grand or so.

I think you could get that all day with the right person. I sold my wrecked car for $500, and it was a mess. And I kept the seats. The guy mainly wanted the transmission. Put it up on craigslist, people will call.

The dents in the driver's rear qrtr are the things that kill that car in my opinion.
The front ones.....meh....it is easy to swap out a front fender. The rear however will require body work to fix.
$1100 max

I couldn't see the car clearly... now that you put it that way... $950 to $1,100 is fair... I also notice that its seen plenty of raw winter weather spanning 20 + years.
as far as building this car...
the interior is extremely undesirable, and will cost plenty in sweat and parts to remedy.
it matters very little that it runs, because it won't very soon, or will require the equivalent of sweat and parts to get the motor out of danger --
an amount numbering in the dozens of hundreds of dollars...
otherwise, it is very close to the point where something in the lower end of the block will fail and damage the crankshaft and block...
being that there are so many super-clean 944s out there needing major work or engines, etc...
and since the block and crank are probably good, this is surely a good donor vehicle for parting and doing all the cool stuff you transaxle engineers love to do.

my first Porsche was in november 1991.
i purchased an '87 944 n/a in Guards Red with 17,400 miles at auction for $4,700.00 [recovered theft vehicle, where its my guess the owner was broke] having slashed seats, slashed up door upholstry on passenger side some keyed up paint, and broken passenger side door handle.
i drove that car to 129,000 miles... i let a bad oil seal situation go and forgot to check the level at fill-up.
up until such time I had done 1 timing belt at about 55 k miles, changed the spark plugs a few times, blew up a cap and rotor and did oil changes.
In October 1994, I had finally scheduled an appointment for a new timing belt, belts, hoses, H20 pump, thermostat and fan relay.
One day, i was driving very fast -- heading west from Austin to Odessa, Texas on my way to see my girlfriend,
i had thought about the oil situation about 10 minutes before filling up just west of Fredricksburg... and about 40 minutes after that, i pulled off Texas 290 onto I-10 just outside of Kerrville...
as i pulled on to I-10 there was Corvette going about 110...
i had been running pretty fast myself that morning up until that moment...
we ran about 120-135 for about a 10 or 15 minutes and all was fine...
suddenly, in horror, i remembered the oil situation...
when i looked at the oil guage, it was reading zero...
i had no dummy lights that would have alerted me to any trouble.
i shut the car down but it was too late, i had damaged the bearings and was now enduring the walk of shame...
about 1 mile outside of Junction, Texas
Halloween 1994 -- a very sad day for me...
