Default 944 history

Are there any Porsche 944 considered to be rare ,factory fitted extras, colour, codes or special additions or anything that make them rare or limited?Just curious about the history.

Not really... Some will argue the "celebration" edition of '88 or the 924S "leMans/SE" models are rare. What makes them rare now is either 1) low mileage or 2) unabused. In the US, most 944 series cars lead a rough.hard life. They are at the bottom of the used Porsche prices. Give them another 10 years and they will be more rare, but perhaps not worth a lot more. Much like the 914 before them, they were produced in too large a quantity to be viewed as exclusive. Maybe an original Turbo S?

Special value cars in the 944 Line in rough order of importance

944 GTP - (1 made) LeMans racer
968 Turbo RS (4 made)
944 Turbo - Trans Am
924 GTR
944 Turbo Cup - Rac history
944 Turbo Cup - 9 street cars in the USA
924 GTS
968 Turbo S
924 Carrera GT
944 Rothmans
944 Turbo S

So you can argue about the order on some these, but except for the Turbo S these are either very hard to find or not street cars or both.

All other 944, 924, 924Turbo, 924S or 944 Turbo are not worth anything specal. Even the 944 Turbo S brings only a 10% premium which is hardly worth mentioning.

Silver Rose is just a paint color, but was the original color (along with terrible plaid seat covers) of th 1988 944 Turbo S. Later Turbo S cars had various factory colors.

Later Turbo S cars had various factory colors.
Later Turbo S cars are only other color 1988 models, technically same as original Silber Rosa was.
1989-1991 are just Turbos with 250 hp engines. quite many consider also 1989 models as Turbo S models, but that is not correct. They do not have automatically same equipment as the real thing in 1988 had. There was even more differencies in 1990 & 1991.

Sunroof Delete also demands a premium on some cars.

Scott, are you refering to that rare color of gaurds red?

The 924 has the Martini Edition in limited #s

As far as the large production numbers of the 944.
Total world wide 944 production 113,070
Toal world wide 951 production 25,107
Total world wide 968 production 12,177
Its small compared to the 500,000 '65 Ford Mustangs that year.
So hang onto it and in a few years values should start to climb.

The whole series is either so rare you'll pretty much never come across one or so common a quick glance at ebay will show results

At the end of the day our cars are still somewhat rare (sure you see them for sale a lot but how often are they actually being driven?)

based upon 2.5 Lux
That "Lux" thing is only for UK market. Perhaps also for other RHD countries, but never for LHD ones.

Special Editions
Also 1988 944 Special Edition. Most cars had divided rear seat. Also fabrics were like 951 S Silber Rosa had, but color was black/grey (at least in european market)

1992 - S2SE, UK Only, any colour with special decals, lowered suspension etc. - 15 units
With upgarded DME chip, slightly more HP than regular S2 had.
