Broiling is what did it. Broiling is REALLY freakin' hot, and only has the heat come down on it from the top. Slow and steady is the way to bend this stuff. Just be patient at 275, if you get nothing, you can try to bump it up a little at a time.

All I did is this:
1. make sure the original cover is clean
2. placed the cut out piece of plastic directly on the original cover
3. place both the cover and plastic on a cookie sheet
4. then place everything in the oven (oven should be at 300 degrees)
5. wait 6-7 minutes watching the plastic and you will see it take shape around this time
I did this using 1/16 plastic, I also made about 10 other different covers messing around with different times and techniques, and this process was by far the best. Good luck!

I tried it a second time and it worked better by just using the lower element at ~275 degrees.
My biggest concern is when using the lower element it tends to curl the acrylic up and I'd like to have it bend down over the cover..

Use the OP's method of a sand filled pillow case after it comes out of the oven, that might counteract what i think your describing.
