i had to stop working on it to come back to school but my dad got back from a trip and decided to try his hand at it and with some fiddling with wires and connectors he got it to start. guessing a loose connection somewhere.

No offense to you at all, but with everything you tested/changed on it, it had to be something stupid like that. Just something simple and overlooked.
