I saw a ricer today whose wheels had some sort of decorative hubcap that was able to spin when the car was stopped. Similarly, at slow speeds the rate of hubcap spin was much greater than the wheel speed. This made for a very striking visual effect, especially since the hubcaps were shiny chrome. In fact, my mind did a little "I cannot comprehend this" for an instant till I realized what it was. Then the next thing I thought was that whoever patented these is gonna be an instant millionaire.
Anybody know more about these wheels?

Already a millionaire...Lattrell Sprewell (spelling?) was the guy that either came up with 'em, or had the vision to market them to the bling bling crowd. Check Steve Lavigne's avatar for a nice shot of 'em ;o)

Despite the fact that it provides no performance benefit,
you have to admit it looks pretty f*cking cool. its a more visually pleasing modification then glowing lights, big spoilers, or dice in the mirror.

Its gotta stop sPiNnInG yO! when they get salt/dirt in them??!! A friend and I were discussing them about a week ago and came to the conclusion that they have to be hard to clean and eventually would get stuff in the bearings which spin...anyone?

Make something shiny, and the ricers will buy it. Kinda like when the first white man came to
America and sold trinkets to the Indians. (No offense meant towards the Indians, just the rice crowd!)
Now, if you make something shiny that spins and has blue lights on it, it's an instant hit!

They kick ***. My spinner wheels each have a small light clutch that is tied to the clutch pedal. If I come to a hard stop so that they are spinning real fast, they can each act as a flywheel. When I launch from first gear, as I engage the engine clutch, the clutch in each of the wheels engages as well to give me awesome 4 wheel acceleration off the line. Once the wheels are going as fast as the spinners, the clutch disengages till the next time I take off from a stop.
