Default tow hook woes

Hi guys, I'm trying to prep my 84 944 to be towed home and its pouring out. Therefore my patience in trying to quickly find where the screw in tow hook attatches is wearing thin. Can some one easily show me where it screws in? My front valence is pretty banged up and I hope its not in the way
thanks,
tom

IIRC early NA's did not have a spot on the bumper for the oem screw-in tow took. my 83 certainly doesn't.

or do u have an aftermarket tow hook?

There no place on your car to tow it from. Rent a two wheel car tow dolly from U-Haul, but DO NOT TELL THEM IT IS FOR A PORSCHE. Cut a couple of 2' X 8" x 5' boards to roll the car up onto the dolly and use over the wheel straps to tie the car down. I towed mine from NC to middle Ga. with no problms. Hope this helps you out.

Cheers,
Larry

interesting... The guy at the towing company told me he couldnt tow without a tow hook, so I bought one. But unless I'm blind, I'd say your're right. Does anyone have an '84 manual they can flip through. I thought I remembered something about a hook in there. Are there aftermarket hooks that fit the car? What are my options for getting this car on a flatbed?

some people have drilled through the front bumper and bolted a hook onto there, and the holes are hidden by the front license plate when just driving around.

theres no real good place to tow an NA, dont let them pull you up by the tie-down eyes, i had my car flatbedded after i nuked my trans and the chains bent my radiator support and broke my valence

i had mine towed by the tie down's in front of the wheel well. i just told him i didn't care if the bumper got damaged. mine's a track car anyway.

if yer car's in good condition, i'd put a tow hook onto the bumper shock mount bolt. i think rennline and other places sell bolton hooks. i've also saw another thread about drilling the bumper and putting on a home depot truck tow hook on. looked beefy enough. esp if u put a backing plate on the inside of the bumper.

If you are going to use a truck flat bed you pull from the rear. You use a strap that goes under the CV joint, up over the transaxle and under the other CV joint and back forming a "Y". DO NOT let them use STEEL HOOKS or CHAINS.

Cheers,
Larry

us racers use tow straps like these. Use the bolt on the bumper shocks. the one i use is a little different than the one in the link. Mine is a strap that simply loops around the bumper shock and metal loops at the end on each side.

If you tow it backwards like suggested above please make sure the hatch is secured WELL. The air likes to catch the hatch and flip it up and over the roof of your car ending in a shower of broken glass when towed backwards.
