ill have to search a bit for it but i read an article one time where some hotrodders put a aluminum vortec 5.3 in something, put LS1 heads and a hot cam in it and it put out about 480hp. that would probably cost about the same as sourcing a new ls1.

and if you really want to get ambitious...

say goodbye to the competition.

except I would intercool it, even at low boost
I thought about Carl's system and even had him send me dimensions. Unfortunately, with the 968 engine in a 924S body, there is insufficient room to mount the charger. I would have to move the existing radiator forward and down to make it work. In addition, without an intercooler and some other mods, the charger will not make the power that I'm looking for.

A good friend that I drive with bought a '99 C5 and pulled the LS1 to install a big engine. Thus, I have a line on a relatively cheap, and complete LS1 with 57k miles on the clock and it's nearby.

There you go. The first swap I drove was a 924s track car with LS1 (tune & headers) and it's easily one of the most impressive Porsches I've ever driven. It's been a track car and test mule for at least 6 years (including customer test drives) and he hasn't dropped a dime on it since.
