What are you trying to seal?

Oil pan, "apply to the upper and lower corner joints".

I have some UltraGrey RTV 599BR Silicone. But not sure if that will work.

Also there is a reference to Loctite 574?? Unable to find that as well... I did find and buy Green Sleeve retainer, but then again... do not think that will do the trick...

I've used RED Rtv on the oil pan before, just a VERY little to hold the corners.

I've heard people have used other stuff too.

Supposedly, if you wanted to get the right stuff, automotion has it.

HTH!

Yahmabond

I have yet to use it, but I know many who have and love it. I am going to give it a try on my rebuild.

Excellent! EIS in Orlando carries both product. Will look them up and give them a call. Thanks!

I have to start putting the engine back together... the help that I had (brother-in-law) is leaving on Friday...

Angry

$#@%#@$%$#@%

No luck with EIS... they do not have it in stock... minimal orders of 100.00 They do not have a list of retailers that carry the stuff... great!

Automotion/Performance only has the Loctite 574 but no RTV 730... why can things be easier?

[quote]Automotion/Performance only has..

You might want to print the loctite datasheet and try one of these industrial supply stores (we have a couple in the estate were I work, I asume it is the same in USA). Could be surprised how fast they come up with either the product you are asking for or an very suitable alternative.

I would say to stay away from any silicone compound when the joint is in contact with oil/gasoline. Use only for water-based sealing (like fish tanks). I had to re-do my oil-pan gasket TWICE because I used the red silicone stuff. Yamabond-4 works great from your local Yamaha dealer.

Check the label on the red silicone, there is one type (Hi-performance)that is oil compatable and is what is used to replace the gasket on some Isuzu motors.

So I go the the Porsche dealer here to see if the carry the RTV 730... for a mere US$126.00 I can buy one. I don't think so!!

I went to Zotz Garage and asked Ron and Don there. UltraGrey RTV 599BR Silicone should do the trick. They also had the orange loctite (another brand but the same stuff - Wurth Flange Sealant Orange).

On my way to installing the new piston rings, drop in the pistons, bearings, crankshaft and oil pan...

If only the valve stem seals would get here Thursday, we could finish the head assembly...
