Default Broken hood release

OK..last time I opened the hood, I thought I felt something break. Sure enough, today when I went to open it up. The handle moves, but doesn't release the hood. Probably broke where the cable attaches to the release lever.
How hard is it to remove the lever ***'y and get to the cable?

should be behind the carpet.

if you need to open the hood, badly, you can reach up with needlenose pliers from underneath and pull the cable to open the latch.

The break may have been right where the cable meets the pull lever. If not you can get at the release with some contourtion.

I am thinking it broke right at the lever.

Well if thats the case, removal shouldnt be hard. I havn't removed one in a while, but I believe that plate is held on with some screws. To remove the carpet, you remove the door sill (lightly pry up with a flathead) and the carpet should just be clipped on.

I found that the break is where the end of the cable meets the plastic surround of the lever assembly. The cable is still attached to the lever. But I just had to pull the whole thing to open the hood.
Now I just need to order a new assembly.

Exactly what happened to my 86. I can still open the hood by just pulling the whole handle. A new cup costs $5 at Pelican (someone is selling them on eBay for $15??)

when you all say, "ull the whole thing to open the hood" you mean the cable w/ housing? or the broken free handle lever.

i cant find the lever for sale anywhere. or listed on any parts diagrams. the hood release lever and mount broke free from the mount on the wall of the interior

it could be opened by holding both the lever and the mount and pulling them away from one another, but then the whole pivot broke. so the lever is attached to the cable w/ housing, and it does nada.
