Cool 944's are WAY cool!

These cars are just so much fun.

I flog the **** out of my 944. It must be at WOT for over 50% of the time I'm driving [once the oil pressure comes down a bit after starting]. Hahah, old ladies give me pissed off looks all the time but the kiddos who just pulled up next to me in their little Honda Prelude were pointing and smiling.

I had an E46 M3 squirt by me on the freeway so he could beat me to the offramp but I was on his *** through the entire corner with him trying to get away, squeeling my tires and practically drifting the whole way, until the road straightened out and he was so far gone that I couldn't even see him anymore, lol!

Then there's the smell of oil I've got from a leaky front seal, the exhaust rattle and leak [I just picked up gaskets today], but who gives a **** because I beat every other idiot's *** to the next corner threshold braking [no ABS] with the tail sliding around the corner like a madman. I love my 944.

I am glad you live in the Northern Part of my State. I dont really like it when I see people driving like that on the public roads. My opinion may be swayed that way because I was a 911 EMT on an ambulance in my city for several years and I have seen alot of sh|t. I am sure you are the best driver in SF but it's the other guy that cant drive that will get you or some bystander killed. Sorry to rain on this parade but maybe when someone dies close to you, you might see things differently.

Eric, I understand everything you're saying and you're completely right. My intention with this thread was not to start another 'keep speed off the street' flame war, but to inspire the rest of 944 owners on here to enjoy their car...sometimes they get overlooked because the 951's and 968's get so much attention, most of the 944 posts are about **** breaking and people wanting more power, etc...

No offense taken, you can just live vicariously through reading what I post and be safer that way.

Thumbs up

Hey, this sounds just like my driving as well! Just as soon as the engine gets some temperature up and the oil is flowing around nicely, it's a go...

I get the evil eye from pretty much everybody even when I'm not going fast, so why not have some fun if the end result is the same?

I think it actually has a lot to do with the sound. Nobody bothers to look mean when a Volvo zips past them (going fast), but man, if I'm driving behind that same Volvo, 4000+ rpm (hey, that's where the power is) with my rather loud exhaust... oh well.

Actually it might be that if I was driving some POS Opel "getout" (Kadett) like I drive my car, people wouldn't even notice, but as soon as they see it's a sports car, I somehow magically turn into the biggest threat to traffic safety. People are weird.

I even got some complaints from some neighbours about "driving too fast", which I don't do anywhere near the house. Eventually I found out that it was just because they could hear me driving back home late in the night - when I always keep it below 3000rpm anyway. And, the limit for noise a road car can make here is 85db, and I've never had any problems with the yearly inspections, so I know it's not too loud.

Doh, looks like this turned into some pathetic whining... wasn't my intention, sorry! So, about having fun with N/A 944's, YEAH! Just don't do anything you're not 100% sure you can pull off and it's perfectly fine.

(disclaimer: I'm not saying I'm a great driver, or even a "good" driver, but I think having some DE and autocross makes anyone "safer" on the streets than the old ladies going below speed limit while not being able to see 10ft further in front of them)

Cheers!

Personal opinion - yours may vary...

If others can see you "WOT" then your not driving responsibily. Keep it on the track or off the beaten path.

I find "drivers" who seem to get their jollies going 90 plus on a crowded highway to be a danger to me as well as themselves. They can not control the conditions that allow for a lane change by an unseen car a few feet ahead. Keep it cool and we'll all live to race another day.

Pardon my ignorance and hate of acronyms, but what is "WOT"?

That's probably the best description of 944's: FUN!

Hey, if it's good enough for Roland Kussmaul...
