'LiL Mule's thread
I apologize in advance if you have already seen all of this
I have decided to make a thread solely for the '83 car nicknamed 'LiL Mule' I am currently working on.
I have various threads regarding it in the past but I thought I ought to combine them for my next round of mods and to provide past background.
this car will never be a showcar or even a quality race car by any stretch of the imagination. It will be the test mule to see what can be done on a limited budget with a POS car.
A little background on the car:
Bought at auction for 500.00
drove to arizona w/o trouble, getting great gas mileage shortly after purchase.
Drove as a DD for quite awhile ....over a year.
Supercharged with methanol injection, no IC, ran a 14.0 @98 mph@ 5800 ft elevation
Added I/C and went 13.55 @105 @ 5800 ft
Bought my red 951 and it became the second toy
Bought my black 951 and it became the 3rd toy (basically never played with)
I am finally getting around to playing with it again..woohoo..
I have been putting together a twin charge setup using it as the template car. It has also been used as a template for my twin scroll crossover and other items. I have quite a few of the pieces complete, but I am going to do something different in the short term to make sure the tuning is possible.
The progress and parts list as of right now is:
lightened from 2655 to ~ 2300 based on weighing of removed items
10.8:1 forged shortblock
turbo head fully ported and milled .050 with new springs
turbo oil cooler
NA cam
quick spool turbo, capable 53# per min,
modified 951 IC
custom down pipe
tial WG
BMW TB
Custom manifold
center force clutch ( may be swapped at a later date for 951 parts if needed, chip will need to be changed for more teeth) this clutch was good for a 2.0 60'
S2 trans (undecided on this for future, it's just what I plan on doing for now)
custom Downpipe with 3.5" exhaust 2 bullet mufflers.
port injected methanol if needed, using a hobbs switch to activate
96# injectors
link map for now until MAF chip is finished
MAP controlled timing (using currently on my 951 thanks to Rogue)
Zietronix logging, AFR, EGT, Boost
twin pumps
E85 of course
AS of right now, the car is at my workshop and the engine is installed, turbo is bolted up, most of the 951 parts are installed. Hopefully I can get it fired with the smaller injectors this weekend. I will be breaking in the engine with the stock NA injectors and the WG off the car (no boost).
Anyway I'm sure many of you have seen these pics before but I am starting this thread for this car in particular. I will be taking new pics soon. For now here are the old ones:

Glad to hear it!
For a minute there I was scared you were selling her, always good to see someone doing this kind of stuff on a lowly n/a.
Out of curiosity did you ever find out or make an educated guess at what you power would be at with just the supercharger?

I'm running a Turbo PP,Flywheel, Bell-Housing and 930 clutch plate on my Turbocharged N/A, the two extra teeth on the Turbo PP produce a 1.5% timing difference with stock N/A chips, so far I have seen no ill effects of running this setup.

Using my method, quarter mile mph (typically very conservative compared to dyno readings) it made 250 rwhp. That was at 15 psi. I had installed a smaller pullley later on and was making 18 psi so probably a little more.

Really??? Good info. From my understanding though it should be a pretty simple software change. However, that is very nice to know. Hopefully the centerforce will hold up
Do you have any engine pics?? I would really love to see it.
I am very much looking forward to seeing what this car will do with a turbo compared to the SC. Especially since it is so light

Here is an older engine picture, I have added water injection and relocated the BOV to the turbo side. I run 10PSI and let the Safeguard handle timing, the car is very quick, I don't know how much hp its producing.

I would love to know how to as well.
Josh (rogue_ant) is the one who has all the knowledge.
You should contact him regarding doing a chip that has a new timing map, and maybe even a chip that uses a MAP sensor for timing. He is very helpful.
We are going to use my current 951 map with less timing throughout, especially at higher boost.
edit
I also know the feeling of using the 9.5:1 pistons and how much more "snappy" it feels. That was with a big turbo. It should really come alive with this turbo. Have you logged your boost with the k26??
