Ther should be no debate HID is not overrated. I have a Audi Allroad and my HID on low beams is brighter than my wife's 2000 bmw 328i brights and low at the same time. Sure it is not just the bulb it is the housing aswell. I thin kppl. that say that HID is overrated is ppl. that do not own true HID systems. Even if you just do the HID bulb upgrade it will still be at least 3 times better than the $50 Salvania H4's I have in my car now. We need to realize that our cars have terrible headlight systems. It is truely only a barely "stepup " from a 1960 VW beetle. Any bulb configuration will not heald any "price performance" increace. 7" rounds will have to be something uteher than a seal beam with a H4 hole cut into it. We need new reflectors, better light amplification and unfor. ppl. are not making them. I looked at a Nissa Xterra today and had a brain wafe < insert comment herer > I am sure I could make a portion of that headlamp work in my car.

I am telling you that my 7" 90/100 halogens are brighter, both low beam and high. The only difference is my light is more yellow/white and the HID more blue/white.
You must keep in mind that it is silly to compare a factory designed HID system and some slapped together 7" solid mount HID kit.
For the money alone... stick with halogen.

Isn't Tiburon in the San Francisco area? There are a few kits out there if Snappy wants to compare.
The other thing to keep in mind is the lens design and type. I'm using glass Cibies that were well designed. If you have plastic composite HIDs you are going to be at a performance disadvantage at some point. Road rash will nick up the plastic easier than glass and cause more diffusion of the light beam. And no matter what sort of protection has been applied, the plastic will be attacked by UV rays from the Sun as well as the bulb. Then it starts to "milk" up and cut down light transmission.
No doubt about it, well designed HID is an excellant lighting system. But with my Full Boat kit, when you get to the end of the day it more than holds its own with HID. And when you consider we have 7" rounds there really aren't any good HID options, much less at a reasonable cost. I want good lighting, I don't care what I use to get there. <img border="0" alt="[bigbye]" title="" src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" />
