7" HID Inside info
A guy at my school works for Hella and I was speaking with him today about some 7" HID kits for our cars, he seemed pretty sure that Hella wasn't going to make these however mentioned Valeo. If I'm thinking right Valeo makes the Cibie lenses as well, he thought Valeo was lauching a 7" HID lense/bulb in about 6 months or so. Personally I wasn't interested in the Sylvania Xenarcs so hopefully these Valeo units will pan out. Just thought I'd pass it along.

Sylvania makes HID upgrades for the DOT 6024 sealed beams. You get a HID low beam and use an H3 bulb for high beam. The kits have been $500 for the past six months.

Thos same kits were $1000 6 months beofre that, and almost $2000 6 months before that.... think there's a reason the price dropped so quickly? It sure wasn't because of comsumer satasfaction.
And HID is just another way to produce light. When it's a designed system and is working properly it's good. When it's an aftermarket add-on or poorly designed it's Terrible (for both the driver and EVERYONE that has to be subjected to the lights).
This whole issue has been hashed out at least a dozen times on here by people far smarter than myself. You can spend ~$450 and get HID quality lighting or you can spend lots of money (more then $450, much much more) on aftermarket HID systems and never get the same lighting as above.
If you HAVE to have HID on your car, buy HID driving lights and put them in place of the fog lights. Of course, that's just my opinion (although informed), and you can take it or leave it.

Still new here but they sell the Sylvania 6024's here in Super Blue (6024SB)...supposed to be direct replacement but with the H3 bulb in a blue tint w/ high output...they have them for like $18.00 each lens inc. bulbs in the auto store here...I was going to put them in when the FRIGGIN snow melts (hopefully by JULY ...

IceShark, glad your here. Just the man I wanted to talk to.
Assume for a moment that you seldom (once a month or less) drive your car at night. But you still want to toss the factory crap and put some lights on that you can see with, but you don't have any plans on running the Dekar Rally or the 24 Hours of Daytona. What would you recommend?

My Full Boat Kit from Dan produces far better lighting than the HID's on my fathers X5. I think the HID setup is over rated, and over priced.
To have a proper HID system, it needs to be self leveling, hard to do with some 7" rounds.

Do a search on "Icesharks headlight upgrade"
Best money I have ever spent!

Are these the same xenons that are on the E46 M3? I've heard nothing but religious endorsment of IceShark's kit, and that's a very impressive comparison that I can understand.
Those suckers are bright.

Tim, go to http://www.gururacing.com
Click on lighting and then all the links back to Rennlist.
At the end of the day, it is best to rewire and run overwatt halogen like the kits I sell. And it is probably cheaper to just buy one of my kits because getting the same quality components is pretty tough. But up to you.
I've got 5 left. One needs to go to Finland. So 4 available before I start a new build list. Those build lists can get real long, I think one was over 6 months waiting for parts.
