would the type of fluid you are using contribute or prevent ring and pinion failure? I am using redline mtl-90 plus one quart of redline lightweight shockproof which is what was recommended by other rennlist members when I changed fluid. before I was using swepco which caused some grinding in winter. the redline shockproof is suppose to help cushion the gears according to the description.

is it possible that the cars that have this failure were just driven really hard or raced?

I'm scared to drive my car hard now. I usually take off fast and make fast gear changes.

stoner924 - Yeah, this car was driven hard. It was a weekend toy plus autocross/track day special.

It was very weird how it blew- The wife was driving it home from inspection, accelerating from a stop sign while turning and drove over a slippery manhole cover. I guess this series of unfortunate events caused the failure. Or, it was the last straw.

Either way, all the parts are ready to go except the short throw. I butchered that shift linkage so I hope it replaces it.
