I really want to see how it looks when it's all put back together. I'm having a problem with my current console where the ashtray doesn't want to sit level. I think it's where the vinyl has curled a bit on the console where the ashtray sits. I'm thinking about recovering mine in leather, but am worried about the extra thickness of the material.

What adhesive did you use?

There is no need to worry about the thickness of the leather. Just make sure it is about the same thickness as the old vinyl. Strip the console of the old vinyl, and match the thickness of the vinyl with the leather. Just make sure to fit everything really tight, and glued down well. You could even sew a French seam on each of the two corners of the rear and it'll fit better.
