Post blew the weld on my Dynomax muffler, now need new muffler, suggestions?

This morning i had a backfire or something on my car causing a flame to pop out the rear of the muffler. I haven't ran the car rich in a while but I had noticed a strange humming and whistle noise after it happened. I pulled over to the side to check the wires and one of them was touching the hood. I re-arranged them to prevent another misfire (could have caused my backfire), went home and pulled all the plugs. No fouls....but now I need a new muffler since the welds on the perforated tube are now gone causing a noisy and chattering rear muffler. Any suggestions on performance exhausts??? Skip if you're out there I was wondering what kinda muffler you have on your car. I would like to go with an SS muffler now for better quality and durability.

I have also been looking into the magnaflow street series mufflers and noticed that one that I like in particular is 1/4" smaller in inlet diameter than my piping (i have 2.5"). Is there a way the diameter can be enlarged without damaging the muffler itself by the shop????

Other than that, suggestions are welcome!

If you have a little time, I have just ordered a 60 series Flowmaster. I will let you know how that goes if interested. It isn't supposed to be a really loud muffler, but it still has pretty good flow. It isn't stainless though.

I wouldn't put a muffler on with the wrong (smaller) inlet-outlet diameter.

The one on my car right now gives me a hornets in a can tone ever since i installed headers. Since it's a straight through, should i go with a turbo style muffler?

I will listen for your results on the flowmaster hopefully i get some more suggestions on here too

The UltraFlo Oval 2.5". I don't think the build quality is that great on these, but not as bad as some.

I would recommend Borla XR-1 for performance - they are SS inside and out, and sound a bit better than my Dynomax.

I have a flowmaster 40 series on mine and it is loud! Was looking at the 60 series since it is supposed to be a little quieter.

what about Magnaflow? Any opinions on their exhausts???? To answer my question above, i'm looking at one also that is 2.25" inlets but my piping in the rear is 2.5", can a muffler shop enlarge the inlet size without breaking the perforated tube in the inside or damaging it???

Sorry for all my questions but the sound is getting quite annoying already

how do they like the muffler Skip? I'm looking at it right now and it just looks so small. They also offer 2 lengths...a 12" and a 16". Would the 16" be too long underneath the car? or would a 12" be more right considering its a 4-cylinder only?

Sounds good, but a bit loud for a street car. Tone is better than my Dynomax. OE muffler is ~18" IIRC - 16" is a good size, but you could certainly go smaller.
