Default Hatch opened while towing backwards. Bad.

83 944, just got it home.

Earlier this year my son, the previous owner, put the car a trailer backwards when he bought it.

Hatch pins were not working, air caught the spoiler, and so hatch opened on the highway.

One strut looks like it broke, and the glass is partially dislodged.

Probably not the easiest save, so I probably need another.

Will all years fit? How about 924's? Were there any design improvements along the way that might make a later year superior?

The glass can be reseated and the hatch struts are about $45 for the pair. www.clarks-garage.com has a write up in their garage manual section.

Pretty much all are interchangable. No upgrades through the years but newer ones might not have the glass separation problem (yet). Newer will also have the 3rd brake light. I have one from a 951 on my 924.

Be sure you get the correct struts for the year of the hatch. Wrong struts are one of the major causes of glass separation, from what I've read.

Got 3rd brake lights in excess? Not to hijack your thread... but may be you would be interested?
Or from someone else's scrap pile....for my low budget almost every day driver ....

I sure wouldn't mind a complete P car OEM, hatch mounted 3rd brake light, lens, socket, complete .. including the ( you piano wire /guitar string cut off) glued on bracket part too.. to install on my 1983 944 ....

These days the close calls to my daily rear-ending commute I am thinking it a smart move... I guess is from the reliance (while texting or cell talking) on the CMHSL (or what ever that is).

Last equal used Ebay "kit" was in excess of $35 with the S&H like 1/3rd geez.....
I was hoping like = or < $25 delivered, snail mail or ups...

Thanks
