Default Scrapes inside oil pan?!

So there are these mystery scrapes inside my oil pan near the oil pickup. When I saw them, I assumed that the pickup must have been loose, but it isn't - the pickup isn't budging. Any ideas?

Looks like marks from someone trying to install the oil pan when the engine is still in the car after a bearing job. It is not the easiest thing to fit up on first try laying on your back. Then again, maybe your pan was used as a rock tumbler?

Huh. They're fairly deep. You'd really have to be an gorilla to make such impressive scrapes when installing...

Answer is: 4" angle grinder to make clearance for the pickup. I wonder who did it. This is the first time the oil pan has been off to my knowledge...

I think why is more accurate. Trust me the pan has been off before at some point in it's life. Maybe a PO figured a grinder was a good way to clean the pan after a RB failure. If all Porsche castings fit that bad we wouldn't have enough 944's left for a forum.
