Default Sourcing TT Bearings and Sleeves

TT is out and ready for a rebuild. The bearings sound bloody awful when I give it a spin and it looks to be the source of my raspy rattle when I decelerate. I'm trying to get hold of some bearings and inner sleeves. I've searched but I can't find much current info.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good stuff. I've got a really bad dry raspy rattle when I feather the throttle or lift off the gas. Revving it in Neutral with the clutch out it does it as it's coming of the peak revs. The tranny was opened and all looks good. Turning the TT by hand it feels quite rough and makes a fair bit of noise. Hopefully the TT is the culprit. Thanks for the help!

I am about to do my TT as well. I have ordered 6006ZZ with the correct C4 clearance bearings from SNR bearings out of France. They cost about AU$60 each. I am getting the bushings machined locally for about $20 each.

They don't say what clearance they are. I'll give them a call today and find out a bit more about them.
Eric, how's Brizzy? Nice work on finding bearings in France. They sure are hard to find.

I suspect the VXB ones are C3 clearance - that size is commonly available and can be bought for around $10 from most bearing suppliers. The correct ones also have the double metal shields (ZZ). The 2RS (rubber shields as shown in the link posted above) are not IMHO ideal considering the rpm that the bearing need to work at.
Brisbane's a little cold at the moment - about 6-20 degrees C - not that anyone in the northern half of the US would call that cold.
PS - it must be great to be able to buy a 944 at US prices! Certainly a lot cheaper than over here.

just because it is listed for a certain application doesnt mean it cant be used for other stuff. a 6006 bearing is a standard size, the clearance is the variance.

Yeah, I could be tempted to throw some in and see how long they last.

Eric, sounds like a nice Queensland winter. I lived in Caloundra for 20 years, I miss my morning surf! However, I don't miss the crazy car prices and the sneaky radar traps! I bet a 944 costs a wee bit more than here!

I'll just say this just once. There are many folks here that have used the VBX bearings (6006 ZZ, C3), several are tracked cars only, and not one complaint in well over two years. If people are concerned about rpm and heat suitability they are rated for 16,000 rpm and temps much higher that the TT area will ever see. Buying C4 bearings at $60/each compared $4/each in packs of 10. VBX are American made so I'm not too worried about QC. I've bought SKF wheel bearings made in Mexico and I returned them the quality and finish was so bad. I'm not saying not to use the C4 rating but the difference in radial clearance between a C3 isn't really an issue with manufacturing techniques today compared to 20 years ago. If it gives you piece of mind that Stuttgart specified C4 (C5 in early cars) then by all means spend the extra money. Using the same OE spec logic I'm not convinced the aluminum bushings are such a great idea either. Porsche used a non-metallic bushing for a reason and I doubt it was to save money seeing how aluminum isn't spared anywhere else on the car.

Just to follow up: Has any one had a C3 bearing fail in a TT yet?

the plastic bushings may have been utilized to keep noise down.

Just ordered 4 of the VBX. Now the search for inner sleeves. I'm looking forward to a much quieter car, apparently it has an exhaust note:P I appreciate all the comments.
