its new to me -1978 924 - need help getting things going
Just bought a 78 924 .It ran great for 2 days.Needed only oil and trans fluid and a rear caliber to get it up and running. I will be commuting 95 miles a day in this car. I want to bring it back to its original glory. 3 days in on second tank of gas it began to buck under load.Ran fine for the first mile then the bucking starts again. Then going up a hill was a bronco ride. Almost comical as trucks past the Porsche guy with his flashers on.If I get it up to 60 it cruises fine. .Its in the shop now for gas filter change.I don't know the car yet. What do I concentrate on next? Mechanic says possible aux air valve is sticking and to dip in gumout. What should my gas mileage be? Any direction would be appreciated. One more thing I've learned. Everybody on the road hates the Porsche guy. They give me like 1 sec to go at a light before they lay on the horn. They Love to pass me and tailgate. Whats with that?

Was this car sitting for a while before you bought it? It's possible it's the fuel filter that's getting replaced is causing the problem. Also I'd do a complete tune up on it. Plugs, wires, distrubitor cap, etc.
These cars do atract attention. But at the end of the day those jabronies are driving home in there flavor of the day car and you get to drive a Porsche home every night. That's the part I love.
And welcome to the board btw!

If it has sat for a while the fuel filter is the first place to start. Do NOT dip the auxillary air regulator (AAR) into any liquids as it could cause it to short out upon start up. If it idles OK, the AAR would have nothing to do with your problem. In addition to the recommended tune up, I would run a good fuel system cleaner through it. Techron or Berrymans have worked for me.

Bucking under load sounds suspiciously like ignition secondary (plugs, wires, cap and rotor). If you don't know when they were last replaced, it wouldn't hurt to start vthere. It's one of the easier DIY repairs on a 924.

If it sat for awhile you will want to drain the fuel tank...Then remove the fuel pump so you can get the crap out of the tank...You will have corrosion in there...Almost like sand which clogs the fuel pump causing "bucking" under acceleration...Try it...It costs nothing and you will surprised by the amount of corrosion in there...
Best of Luck.
