+1 on PJ's new book - all his books, really. I just finished "Driving Like Crazy" - many big laughs!

I treat rental cars with respect. I do have to say however that a 4X4 rental with snow on the road is a perfect invitation for some serious sideways driving.

I rent about 75+ cars a year. Generally they are the Chevy Cobalts and PT Cruisers. But on occasion I'll get upgraded to something interesting like an Escalade or a Mustang. I haven't managed to get something really fun like a Corvette or a new Camaro. But, without fail, I drive them all the same. I floor it and take it to redline from every stoplight, brake as hard as I can and see just how much understeer each car comes with from the factory. The reason is simple: Rental cars are the glass slipper of the modern age. You get them for a short time, and then poof; they're gone. I don't know about you, but I hate going to the car lot and BSing my way into getting to test drive 10 cars in a day. This way, I've got about the same amount of "new car" reviews as an issue of Car and Driver, except my company foots the bill. Generally it's worked out well, but I can say that the live axle on the new mustangs SUCKS on Miami pavement.
