Default Fuel Starvation Issue

Suffering fuel starvation for the second time. Last time I changed the sock filter and I thought I had the problem licked, but it is back. Under heavy turn loading below about 9 gallons it starts. Definitely feels like a pick-up problem, but beyond the sock what else can I do?

Did you check flow rate yet with dme jumpered car off and with the dme in and car running? What readings did you get? Also leakdown test what was the pressure after 20 minutes after shutdown? Post readings and we can go from there.

No. Will do.
All I know was 20 minutes into my 90 minute enduro I had starvation. Made my 5-gallon stop early, spilled fuel, had to come in for 5-minute penalty, added 5 more gallons and ran to the end.

Hopefully the problem will surface with the flow/pressure test and you can pinpoint the problem. Gas is too expensive to waste

Are you sure there's not a small crack in the pick-up tube? BMW E30's are famous for this. They would run great until the fuel reached the crack and then lose prime and stutter.

Is there a pick-up tube in the tank? I though the fuel just pooled around the sock filter and got pulled out via the pump.

Sorry, my bad now that I looked it up. I just assumed there was a pickup rather than just a filtered fitting at the low point of the tank. The 9 gallon trigger point is truly weird. It's hard to imagine with 9 gallons left that enough fuel can slosh to the left to expose the pickup to air. Have you removed any of the vapor purge equipment that might restrict air from entering the tank fast enough? There is a check valve in the vapor system but I doubt it could starve air long enough to matter. I assume it's only during hard right sweepers? Does it recover on the straights with no problem?

Pull the sender and look for parts in the tank. I had part of the fuel filler neck break off and it was plugging the hole to the small surge tank on the botton on hard right turns.

Are there any internal baffles in the early steel tank or is yours an +85.5?
