We made good progress on the cage today. Actually, my brother in law Andy made good progress, and I played the human clamp and ergonomics dummy.

Most of the main cage tubes are done and tacked in place. He still needs to make the rear down bars, harness bar and angled cross bar.

Tubing is 1.5" diam .120" wall DOM (mild steel). He is MIG welding it.

Door bars and some finish welds...

I always wondered how they weld the tubes all the way around right below the roof. Well, I saw "the trick" today. After it's all tacked together, he broke a few of the tack welds so he could fold the front and back sections down and weld the top areas (second pic below). Then he folds them back up and finish welds the cage together.

Geeze guys, that cage looks super nice. Better then the one I have in my race car Two thumbs up !!

On a side note, I am headed to Indy this coming weekend for the MotoGP races; but then I'm free the weekends after that to come down and help wrench on whatever ya need help on.

I'll also have my spare rims / tires with street tires, which can serve as backups or if it rains(god lets hope it stays dry).

That looks great, damn he works fast!!! I love it when a plan comes together

Also Dan told me we will need a steering wheel quick release, added it to my list.

Yeah, the quick release is really gonna be necessary to get in and out of this thing. The door bars make it pretty tight. But, I think they will withstand the intrusion of a 6,000 lb cadillac bumper, so that's good.

I should clarify the one day statement. The progress shown in the pics was all in one day, but he did have the main hoop and the plates welded in before that. Still, he got a hell of a lot done in a matter of about 6 hours.

not sure how tall the rest of you guys are but I'm wondering if we need to bring some dense foam or something in case someone is a little short and needs a boost to reach the pedals. hehe

As for decorations, wonder if integrating a toilet lid somehwere is doable ;P

I have a quick release that fits between the momo wheel and the momo adapter. It's a fleabay item so duribility / reliability are questionable (it's cast aluminum, bout 1/2" thick)

Also, I have a nice sized plastic tote box full of spares like ecu;s(early car though), maf, coolant hoses, spare rad(once I yank from my parts car). I'll plan on having all my spares in my trailer so we've got options in case the unexpected occurs.

I'm about 170 lbs and 5' 9". The seat will be on sliders?

Spare radiator is good - I expect those are easily damaged in a race like this...
