Default Lucas oil treatment experiment

I was tempted to try this product but this made me think twice. Can anyone chime in on its validity?

Thanks,

BO

I don't care what it says - I won't put anything other than Amsoil, Brad Penn or Swepco products in my car. Not worth risking it...

Lucas is an epic failure of a product. Even their own displays in stores show that same thing, the Lucas products making oil foam up.

Thanks....I'll just continue to stick with quality oil. I did try Red Line SI-1 this week and noticed a marked improvement...maybe its just placebo.

If it's from those same guys who make electrics for British cars... stay away!

On this topic of Oil additive. Has anyone use Restore? I doubt that anyone would on here, but I am thinking about pouring into my 924S. It smokes when in the upper rpm's at WOT. I thought maybe give it a throw. Any advice on this one.

I am most likely going to switch to a high mileage oil that is 20w-50 hopefully.

924S - Seriously, if you are going to try a 20W - try out Brad Penn Racing Oil. I put in my 951 and it's never been better. It's part synthetic w/ the right amount of ZDDP additives required for our engines. Really super high quality stuff.

My car cost $500 me and my dad bought the car as a project kind of more to make money, but I got it running. It leaks oil and burns it. I think the valve cover may be the cause of some of the leaked oil, but i'm sure the seals are bad too. I am thinking about using high mileage oil because I heard that it can help slow down leaks.

I'd never pour in any magic gunk. Most of that stuff is designed to temporarily mask the symptoms of a problem without fixing anything.

I've used 20W50 and it does slow down some of the leaks. I don't know if it will change the "smoking habits" of your car.

My car only smokes when I am WOT at high rpm. It doesn't smoke on startup or just idleing. Its really weird. It stinks when I go WOT also.

if its burning the stuff, then youve got bad rings and should be fixed. purple power, mean green, awesome, etc.... and a power washer will clean all the caked on oil and grime so after the cam cover gasket is replaced when you put new rings in, you will then be able to better source your leaks, and attend to them appropriately . < just unwarranted suggestions

Has anyone used any of the BG products (44K,MOA). The fuel sysytem cleaner seems to help but I have mixed feelings if the if the motor oil additive does anything.

Restore nor any other additive can not fix a worn or broken engine. It's simply not possible.

A note about Restore. My girlfriend's dad put Restore in her BMW a few months ago much to our dismay. He told us weeks later...after the engine developed a knock. It was quiet and ran perfectly before he added the Restore.

Do not use anything that claims to stop leaks, fix issues, or any other "fix" claims. If your engine is smoking or making noise, there is a mechanical problem that needs to be fix with new parts, not something in a $7 can from PepBoys.

Restore will turn your oil into Albert Soady's sweet sap whiskey.

My other project car is a '52 Ford flathead. Restore has a great reputation among the old-car crowd who are fond of pulling cars out of the weeds, hooking up a fresh battery, and firing them up. Never understood that concept myself, but I see time after time that Restore frees up stuck rings and sticky lifters. Even skeptical folks admit to Restore living up to most of their claims.

Caveat: these are engines that spent the better part of their life running non-detergent oils with no PCV system and carbs that poured leaded gas in at prodigious rates, and likely received indifferent maintenance the last years of their lives. Their internals look like a horror story.

I have never heard of it doing any harm. Eniac, if the BMW was running so great, why did your GF's father put it in?

don't some of those oil additives contain zpp or whatever zinc additive?

lordco carries a GM oil additive and on the back it says containd zpp which is required for older engines. I was thinking of using that in my oil change.

I just use full synthetic castrol syntec or mobil one 5w50 or 15w50

i'm thinking 5w50 may be too thin on startup?

yeah all those additives are junk.

I tried powersteering stop leak from lucas in my power steering rack and it did nothing and just leaked out a little slower because its super thick but it cost like 11 bucks so it didn't save me any money.
