Default S2 head gasket project

This is the first question of many I will probably have to ask as I tackle this project. How do I disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel rail? The supply line nut is a 17mm and the return is a 19mm, do I just loosen it until it releases? I'm not sure which direction to spin the nut as it could depend on what side I'm looking at the nut from. How much pressure should I expect to get, given that the car hasn't be fired up in a week?

Thanks =)

Pull the DME relay and crank the car over a few times.
This will release any pressure in the system.

Righty tighty
Lefty loosey.

go karl, get yer wrench on. heh

there's a cap nut on the front. i think it's a 17mm. unscrew that and catch fuel. it should spew a little or dribble depending on how much residual pressure there is left. a rag is enough to catch it. when u take the cap nut off, don't loose the ball bearing inside.

and then...lift rail up to release the injectors from the IM holes. then u should have enough slack in the lines to just move the rail entirely w/o disconnecting into the battery/blowerfan area

Got the rear line unhooked, not even a dribble of gas came out. Front line doesn't want to budge though, I'm worried about wrenching too hard and breaking something....

ohhh yea yer s2 rail is diff. my lines are both in the rear of the rail.

if rear line is already gone, maybe you can just unbolt the rail from the head and swing it forward and let it rest on the radiator support or something? instead of trying to break off a fitting.

The picture shows the two fuel lines, both at the rear of the rail as well. I have the back one disconnected, but the front one isn't being so forgiving. I suppose I could disconnect it at the other end where the hard line comes through a hole in the wheel arch.

I just have regular craftsman wrenches

Any danger in using PB Blaster on a fuel fitting?

Fuel rail and injectors are out. Three of the fours injector hats are cracked from either age or my removal, going to send them to witchhunter.
