Default Towing and (related) water pump questions

Sounds like my water pump is fragged - noise from the front of the motor sounds like a coffee can full of nuts and bolts. Flatbed coming to take car to the shop tomorrow, so 2 questions:

Where should the winch cable be attached to pull the car ('84, if it matters) onto the flat bed? Cross member?

(Turbo) Water pump is only 3 years / 12,000 miles old, but was a rebuilt unit. Clark's garage says it's not uncommon for those to fail. Does someone offer a better rebuilt unit, or should I buy new?

Inspect what? I will watch them like a hawk as it's loaded/unloaded.

The rebuilt pump is suposed to be more reliable than new according to paragon. Towing I can't help you with, don't let them start the car though!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i had my car flatbedded last week after the R/P blew.

dont let them put the chains on the tiedown hooks on the front of the car.

my hooks are now bent inwards, my valence is cracked more, and my radiator support is bent. thankfully the radiator is fine but it will be interesting trying to put my ac condensor back in there.

When AAA towed my car they put the tow chain keys in the donut hole things right behind the front wheels. The driver said that that's where the shipper attatches his chains when securing the car. I saw it beig loaded and no probs and no deforming of the donuts. mmmm donuts (homer simpson voice)

No damage done. Driver didn't like the look of that front hook, V2. Ended up looping a strap around the control arm at the junction with the crossmember. I'll have to read up on water pumps, my guess is that all rebuilt units are not created equal.

the tow truck driver also told me that the front tow point may shear off and cause damage if it gets pulled to the side instead of straight on... truth?
