I think 944pete was playing with a player owned 996TT. (look at the car name in my screen cap, it is bone stock)

to get 2:44.00 is to run a simply flawless lap on Cote. (in a 996TT)

2:44 Beats me! Good job Rich. Yeah, my 996TT is an owned car. I bought it in Evolution mode but it is bone stock except for color. I did save a replay of my last run but it's on my computer at home. I can maybe send it as an e-mail attachment if anybody wants to see it.

So who is gonna step up and knock off Rich?

Good job Rich! My car is an owned one like Pete's also. I just uninstalled all the modified parts and hit the default settings button to return everything to stock. Sounds like just doing the multiplayer route is easier to get a stock car though, so I'll try that next time.

Operator, did you try bringing your time down any? When I started last night I was at around 2:57, but managed to knock it down to 2:50 with practice. This seems about as fast as I can go unless I can find a turn I'm taking in the wrong gear, wrong line, etc... I also didn't try using the dock. Hmmm....

Pete or Rich: yes, I would love to see the replay.

What general technique are you guys using: brake early and accelerate through corners, brake late, slide through, etc...? No braking at all?

Pete: I think you can modify your first post in this topic since you started it. How about posting all the top times in the first post so people won't have to hunt around too much. Times so far:

It would be nice to get another three or four people up here. Actually, it would be nice to get three or four s...l...o...w people on here so I don't drop down the list anymore!

Got it working online yesterday.
I have original (of course...) and registered accordingly. Remember to add game which you wish to play in the NFS website to your account. Otherwise it just complains about invalid password/username.

Played and got my *** kicked a few times. I was dead last in all but Corsica race. It was fun but a bit awkward since the game seems to run slower online. I am using modem but overall FPS was way slower than in single player mode. It was fun though.

If you guys use OWNED cars, they don't count as STOCK, because you can modify the tire pressures and suspensions without adding on parts, and that alone makes it way faster.

If you're gonna race stock, it has to be not owned.

The fastest way from A to be is a straight line.
Make it as straight and smooth as you can!!!!

If damage is off, you can save a few second on certain tracks in certain places, (by bouncing off the walls) but while I don't call that cheating per say, i'm not at all keen on it either.

Cote downhill, fastes route is LEFT at the town, and at that 2nd to last corner with the big cliffs to the left, it REALLY helps to cut the corner. If you break as late as you posssibly can before the LEFT in the village, you can save 1-2 second if you do it right...

But all this is talk.. it took me a few stressfull runs to get a 2:44.06.. one muck up and that's it. Time to restart again!

Did you not beat us bad enough, now you're accusing us of cheating by not using stock cars? As I said, I removed all non-stock parts and reset to all default settings (tire pressures, ride height, etc...) Nobody questioned your time even though you have the fastest. It would be nice if you were less suspicious of us as well. Just so you'll feel better I'll use the LAN option next time, I didn't think of that as an option before.

You did use the Turbo, right? 3:05 may be great for a non-turbo. If it was the Turbo, then yes, I'm happy now. Hopefully if we can get some replays sent out you can see where you're losing time. I'll even send mine out if none of the guys with better times have replays.

Regarding online play, I brought up an IP server of my own last night briefly but nobody was around to try it out. I've tried using the "Online" button, and the following happens: My PC tells me that an upgrade is available, do you want to download? I answer yes and the game crashes. I answer no and the game crashes. I believe I have the latest patch so I'm not sure what update it's talking about. I'm using Windows 2000 so this may be resolved if I get it working on my Win98 build.

I can bring a server up at 10:30 tonight if anybody is interested. I have a cable modem so throughput on my end shouldn't be a problem.

I'd be interested in IP game tonight if you don't mind lowly modem uuser there. I also try this 00 911 turbo time for Cote D'Azur through LAN now when I know how to do it.

Anybody tried that with stock 944 Turbo (which you can choose from singleplayer menus)?

yea lets play tonight on the ea servers or ip racing.. whichever

and.. 3:05 is the kind of time I was expecting most of you to be posting, nothing wrong with it, its a decent time, but 2:44 with stock 996TT is crazy stuff...........

and yea- for our purposes go to multiplayer/direct ip/create so you get all the stock cars. you start in the same place too (instead of up a little i think)

my best time now is like 2:52 .. i dont understand how to get 2:44 though

I'm kinda sorry I started this thing. I've never been able to get the game to work online and I was wondering how my times would stack up against others. I thought some of the experienced race driver types here would be smokin' me. I'll run it again with a"stock" 996TT even though the one I used was not modded in any way. I did say earlier that everyone was on their honor.
As far as getting a good time your takeoff is real important. I rev it to around 3500 and hit first as soon as the voice says go. I try to do all braking and downshifting just before the turns and cut the apexes as close as possible flat out. Braking in the turns can send you off the track quickly. If you hear your tires screeching through a turn back off the throttle or widen your line a little to avoid scrubbing off speed. I take the section of track by the dock, I'm in 6th at top speed approaching it then brake hard and downshift to 4th and floor it. I had the damage "on" and the front of the car got pretty banged up on the jump toward the end but it didn't seem to slow the car any.

I'll e-mail the replay file to any one who wants it, just let me know. Let's just have some fun with this.

As stated before, I'll start a server at 10:30 tonight. Even those of you that have never been able to get "Online" to work, try clicking on the Multiplayer IP and enter the IP address I post here later tonight. I'm curious to see if we can get anybody connected.
