Default Capping off CO test tube

In removing the exhaust for changing the clutch I found the CO test tube pipe broke, probably awhile ago. I read that others have had it capped off. By what method have members done this? Did you just have it welded up, or a part to order to close it off?

I found a ball bearing that was a bit larger than the opening and then screwed the broken fitting on top of it. It has worked for years.

Lug nut, great idea!

I believe we pulled the tube and JBWelded a penny into the opening of the screw-on cap. May have required a bit of grinding on the penny to make it smaller.

You could also install the exhaust temp sensor in it and use it now or latter on down the road. Just another option.

A penny is way too big (19mm.) Last time I was under there I also looked to see if a Euro Cent would fit, but it is also too big at 16.25mm. It would be good to know the size of the ball bearing or planchet to have on hand for the next time I am under there. I could punch some disks out at work. Maybe 12-14mm?

Mine are currently plugged with sheet metal screws and washers, which I think is kinda lame.

I found a pan head machine screw with a head just big enough to fit into the female threaded fitting. Put the head (top side down) on the bung, then simply screw the fitting over it with the threadded part of the screw pointing up thru the fitting and screw it to the bung. I have used the ball bearing method as posted above. Either way it will last forever and keep the bung and fitting intact for future use.
