Default Q: re installing stainless brake lines.

The new lines all have female ends. The OEM lines I'm taking off have male ends (eg thread into the caliper). What gives? Does the male end come off the OEM brake lline?

I believe you got the lines for the wrong year/option group....

M030 is all female, all others are male female if I remember correctly... The ones I got from Ians' are male/female and installed no problem...

That's it. Thanks. Exchange time.

On a related note, why do the break wear sensors have 5 or 6 leads and a ground wire, but the plug only shows two lines. Redundancy?

Are you talking about the difference between the receptical on the strut or the sensor itself... My sensors (long since removed) were only really 1 wire, in a loop, break the loop, caution comes on... cut 1 inch from the plug, solder together, heat shrink.. no more sensors... the receptical on the strut also houses the conections for ABS sensors...

I had a moment of panic. But then I realized that I had no ABS!

Maybe since ABS was an option in 1988, they had wiring for the abs sensors even on non-ABS cars.

I can confirm this to be true on 87 951 as well as my 88 N/A... wiring is there, but no ABS sensors, brain, control pistons, lines..etc...
