Default Which model to buy? 944s or s2

Hi, i am looking to buy a 944 and i am hesitating between a 1987 944 S and a 1991 S2 both are in good shape and i wanted to know if one model more reliable than the other? Thanks for all the answers.

S2 is, obviously, newer and fancier. That said, an '83 944 could be a more reliable car than a '91 S2 that hasn't been taken care of. Get some pictures, records, tell us more about the cars. Both are reliable cars, if and only if they have been taken care of *well*.

In my opinion the upgraded looks, and more power are worth the extra money, just my 2 cents. Good luck with the buy.

944S2. No question. Drive both back to back. There is a huge noticable difference between the two.

Reliability between the two is roughly the same, with a edge going towards the S2, since it is newer. Cost of owernship and maintenance is also about the same. But with the S2 you get more hp and torque, better brakes (944 Turbo brakes), a more modern exterior (same as the 944 turbo body), and a few more bells and whistles.

I'd be in the S2 camp as well - but only if both had been well maintained.

Don't know anyone who would choose a 944S over an S2, assuming both were in the same or similar condition and prices were fair for each.

"Buy the newest car you can afford" is one old adage in 944 circles.

Also, search the phrase "dog with fleas" or just "fleas" for a spirited thread I started on this forum 2 years ago on the 944S. Not putting the S down, but if one could get into an S2, I don't know why he would go for the S instead.
