Default DIY 944 Cabrio

Found this while trolling Al Gore's interweb:

No relation, just thought... hmmm.. interesting... and no that is not the wing I want for my Cabbie.
Here's a pic:

And another one to make your 944 front end look like a 300ZX:

Is there somebody who makes kits to install Sunfire lights on a 944? I sure do see a lot of them...

It looks very similar to a well designed Porsche with some cheap looking fiberglass parts tacked on.

...oh wait, it is!

That yellow car is from a company a while ago that was making those convertible conversion kits. Cant remember the name, but there are many many more pics of that yellow car somewhere on the interweb

my guess for the name of the company is applehill and it cost about 3000 for the conversion kit. just a guss.

how anyone can do that to a 944 and reduce the resale value by about $0.03 or 92% is beyond me.

The factory S2/951 Cabrios are the only ones that look right. All of the other aftermarket models look wierd.

i heard that apparently the "factory" cabs weren't even done by porsche in house lol...some company was contracted by porsche to make cab versions and then they were shipped to dealers

i think mazda did a much better job than porsche with their conversion of a hatch to a convertible. that plastic piece around the trunk is really awful looking IMHO.

That is actually correct. Porsche built the cabrio as a coupe and shipped it off to a German subsidiary of ASC (American Sunroof Company) to perform the conversion. Then the car got shipped back and completed.

Yeah the RX-7 was a cleaner design but in reality you really don't notice the plastic caps all that much since they are body colored. The worse part of the conversion was the plastic rear window on a $50k+ car. Of course Porsche didn't even figure that out on any cabrio until 2002.
