I get all my spares from the Exeter Porsche centre, I'd recommend contacting them too and see what they quote you, they know 944's well and are keenly priced.

I guess moving the battery to the rear footwell is better. More central weight reduces the polar moment of inertia - something which transaxle cars don't have going for them from the start.

On that note, those of us installing fuel cells in race cars should move them forward - and we should think about moving the engine back a few cm if possible...

I guess it depends on where you can find the easiest gains

Interesting thread. I haven't looked in many race prep 944s, do you guys usually move the battery to the rear? Or would it make more sense to move it behind the passenger seat? Speaking on US LHD cars.

I moved the battery from the back to the front of the F40LM replica I am building. (Fiero frame) More to make room in the engine bay for the 4.9 V8 than for weight distro.

the rear mounted battery is definitely an oval dash RHD thing. I have no issues for it being in the back and in some ways its handier. When I park it up for a long duration I have a solarpanel trickle charger that I just lay down under the hatch. Perfect!

interestingly, this 944 used to belong to my friend before the current owner who is now selling.

it was converted from LHD to RHD and from n/a bumpers to turbo bumpers. They also moved the battery to the back which I thought was pretty good attention to detail.

no I don't think this is true. early RHD 944's still had the battery at the front.

In the late model cars, the fuse box is where the battery would have to go in the early cars. No room under the hood in the late model RHD cars might be more accurate, then.

and moving the fusebox from the passenger footwell to the old battery spot probably for more footroom with the new dash.

It would be great to see more pics of the earth connection to the body as well as the plate that the battery sits on/is mounted on.

Peter, It's hard to tell from the pics but is your + lead fused close to the battery? If you got in an accident it could short to ground. 150A is like a welder next to your gas tank.

I used to install car alarms and stereos and we always fused any extra + leads within 6 inches from the battery.

That said, I like this idea a lot. Lower CG, cleaner engine bay, and an afternoon in the garage, what else could you ask for?

I don't think thats right man. I can unlock with either key or switch. It doesn't require both.

I believe 968's, or one of the late series the key turned a switch for the electric unlock. Could be wrong though.

don't forget to create a hole for the battery vent tube (if your battery has one). You'll need it because you're moving the battery into the cabin
