Post Rear Porsche reflector (between taillights)

Hey all -

I'm getting an '86 944 NA in a few days, and it has the red reflector between the taillights that says 'Porsche' on it (where the license plate usually mounts). Is this removable? Was it a factory option? I sorta like the classic tail of the 944s better and would like to return it to that look if possible.

TIA!

it's removeable, but it will leave you with two holes in the bumper, and two holes besides the brake lights.

If you remove it and want to get rid of it, let me know. I have one on mine and I love it. My car was hit in a parking lot and it cracked it. It's not bad, but if you don't want yours I might be interested.

Michelle, is your panel bowed? The middle part of mine sticks out a bit, and is not flush with the rest of the rear.

I tried soaking it in hot water for a while and trying to bend it back, but to no avail.

Olli,

If it's total rice, why did Porsche do it to the same era 911s?

I don't think it's total rice.
It came with my car (PO said that it was installed at the dealership), and while I didn't want it at first, it has grown on me.

Goody944: if I were to remove my P-O-R-S-C-H-E panel, it would leave 4 holes that need to be patched up.

TOTAL rice. The first thing I did when I got my 924 was take that nasty plastic, bowed in the middle, piece of "Hey Look, I'm Driving A Porsche" crap and throw it in the trash where it belongs. I really didn't care for it. If I wanted something that big on my car I'd place a Rennlist sticker on the windscreen. Too much advertising kills the flavor. Each to his/her own, but if only US cars had these things, makes me wonder if the American market is overly self conscious and shallow.

Am I the only one who has the red panel that says "944" instead of "PORSCHE?"

Dales:
"944" instead of "PORSCHE"!!!!! your in big trouble now! =)

It's so ricey when people have the "944" logo instead of the "porsche" logo on that lense...

hahahaha... omg I'm bored.

I think it realy finishes the rear look on mine, and I'm of cours totaly against "rice" stuf like "R" stickers and stuff... just not my thing.

But this product was design for the porsche that you own... if you don't like it, don't be telling me/us it's rice... it's insulting, be polite and don't call us ricers... thanks

Thumbs down

"Omigod.." Ricers are everywhere! Ahhhh....!If you are insulted, time to get a thicker skin. Those panels still suck, and futhermore - each to his/her own taste. It's an North American thing caused by the fact that we have different sized license plate areas.

If the factory wanted us to have the license plates bolted to the bumper, they would have put the license plate lights there too - in order to see them at night. Doh!

I have the rear panel, and I do not think it's rice. Rice stickers typically incidate something that's not really on the car. (Ex: TURBO badging on a non-Turbo car). Last time I checked, a 944 was a Porsche through and through, like the panel indicates. Get your definitions right, man.

And alright already: we know your opinion: we know you HATE these panels. Thank you for your most clear opinion. There is no need to be so insulting. I mean, geez: doesn't your dash have yellow numbers? Boy, I bet that looks ricey!

Have a nice day,
