Question Clonk when shifting 1st gear

Hi,

I have a clonk sound when releasing in first gear, all the time, execpting when already in movement. The car as to be stop to have the clonk. When I put the car in reverse and then shift in 1st gear, I rarly have the clonk. If I release the clutch peal very fast in second gear, it also happen.

It defenitly comes from the rear end of the car, so I think it most be in the tranny ! ?

Both of my CV joints are new.

I have an LSD with oil cooler. Could it be bad gear oil, or not enough oil that makes the clutch from the LSD make those anoying sound ?

Search and read all posting talking about tranny sounds, ans no one seems to have this same problem...

Any clues ?

You didn't post year and mileage on the car.

It could be the original center rubber clutch. When mine went up I had the clonking that sounded like it was comming from the rear.

Breaking first gear in a 928 would be an accomplishment. Ill let the others respond because they know more than I.

My bad this is the 944 forum. I broke my rubber center clutch at 201K and it still worked just wouldn't connect for high torque applications. Describe your problem in greater detail and we'll figure it out.

Sorry guys, it's a 951 1986. 158K miles
If it's the center rubber clutch that is going bye bye, how much time do I have until everthing blow up.
It's been clonking for 6K miles. Dosen't seems to get worst.

That's the thing with the rubber centered clutch...it's fine one day, then you're not going anywhere the next day. When mine started to go in my '85, there was a lot of backlash in the drivetrain when letting the clutch out.

It's the rubber centered clutch. You can drive like that for a while, the noise is annoying.

no its not the rubber centered clutch, 951's didnt come with a rubber centered clutch, they all came with a spring centered clutch.

since the CV joints were recently replaced, i would check the bolts on those, particularly the pass side axle side bolts. If not torqued properly those WILL back out, and it will cause a clunking noise like you describe.
