apparently certain california 83's with sport package. the shock itself is an upsidedown shock. the shaft is underneath and the body is up top.

only indicator that i have is mine is green. i think the boge's are supposed to be black.
if this picture from paragon is correct for a boge strut, then u can tell the difference by the diameter of the shaft. the bilstein shaft that's visible is actually the body. so it'll be quite bigger than just a shaft

Taken from a 911 page, but 944 info is the same...
BTW Krystar I believe you have the Bilstein OEM struts..
911 Shocks and brakes:
Can usually be identified by color, although the brand is usually stamped on the lower section of the shock.
Black or gray: Boge
Green or yellow: Bilstein
Red/orange: Koni
White: KYB
Rear calipers were the same for 911’s from 69-83 (‘M’ type)
Rear calipers on 911’s 84-89 were Carrera type

Race Car
Guys, our cars never came with Bilsteins stock so don't even try to put Konis in Bilstein housings. The early cars have a threaded collar strut that is a straight swap out so its as simple as unthreading the collar with a pipe wrench, dump out all old fluids and guts, and reinstall the strut inserts. I have done write ups on how to change them out in 15 minutes for both sides without spring compressors or taking the wheels off.
The late model seal struts will need the hacksaw method unless you find the uber expensive sealed Koni yellow complete struts (about $700+ a pair if you can find them).

lego, even the early cars with sport shock package? i just find it odd that the PO would have bought complete bilstein struts if they could have gotten an insert instead

The early car sport package is a Koni cartridge type that is non top adjustable but nevertheless yellow when you take them out of the strut housing and they are inserts from the factory. 944s never came with Bilsteins stock.
