Default doh....new koni's don't fit into strut housing...

car is a california 83. original strut housing is labeled bilstein and is green colored. ordered koni 8641-1038. i guess i assumed it'd be a direct replacement...but obviously it can't be. i took the bilstein shock out and tried to put the koni in. won't fit. measured it. the bilstein body diameter is 40mm. the koni is 45mm.

bilstein strut:

so....help?

I've got early Boge strut housings, but they still have spindles and stuff attached. Might work for you, though.

I'd say with fair certainty that a 45mm plug will not fit a 40mm hole.

Darren, we can pull those spindles in like 3 minutes.

they are koni 8641-1038 that i ordered from paragon for the early 944 application. by the paragon tech article, it looks like hacksaw inserts is for putting 8641-1414S into late model strut housings.....so i'm at a total loss what to do now.

I've n'er done the conversion myself, but if you get early Boge struts you should be able to do the swap. Don't even think you have to do the hacksaw conversion.

You need stock early housings. If nothing else, junkyards might give you a pair of blown ones cheap.

if only i knew which junkyard in greater chicagoland would have a set of block 944 struts.

which other cars share the same struts? if any? 924? 924S?

You can have mine for shipping if I get the spindles off, but I know you're in somewhat of a hurry with an AX this weekend; doubt they'd make it to you in time.
