Default 944 S2 resonator delete? pics

Are there any slight gains in power with removing the resonator on this car? Doing clutch now so the exhaust is off. Motor and exhaust are stock except for large K&N so a bit more air intake than stock I would think.

I realize this is a little hard to describe over the net, but would you say the increase in exhaust noise is minimal, medium or major?

Searched but nothing specific for S2.

Cheers

I had to swap my exhaust system on my '89 from the cat back. Muffler shop removed the S2 system (resonator included) and put the exhaust from my '85 in. No noticable difference in power for me. Can't speak for sound because there was a Borla system on the car and the muffler was cracked, so it sounded bad in addition to being louder to stock. Kept the resonator section in case I want to put it back in at some point.

i put a new cat on my NA which the original cat had a resonator in it and it got a little bit louder and snarlier but not too different. still sounds excellent

simply a bigger air filter will not bring any noticeable improvements, there are many other restrictions in the path of the incoming air to block any extra incoming air. besides the engine will only pull in as much air as it needs

Don't know about the exhaust, but you may want to put the stock air intake back on.

I put a K&N filter on, and I noticed a definite loss in horsepower around 4-5k rpms.
It's pretty well documented on this forum that the stock intake makes more power than a K&N (on an S2). I didn't believe it myself, so I had to try it. Sure enough, I lost power.

Agreed. The intake systems in these cars were designed by engineers that have more degrees and more expierence as well as more resources than we could ever dream of having. To take it out and replace it with a cone from autozone is bad news.

Acquired car as is with the K&N. When I got the car I ordered a few standard maintenance items just prior including the stock air filter and I got quite a surprise when I removed the nose piece. However, that is they way it is for now.

So I assume any back pressure that may be created by the resonator is insignificant.

If you really wanted to go K&N (I'm in agreement with the other comments oin this thread and wouldn't bother), a much better way would have been to simply have kept the stock airbox and put in the applicable K&N panel filter.

I agree that going back to the stock set-up would represent an upgrade in your situation. Maybe keep an eye out for parting threads...

Default S2 resonator

Did you get rid of the resonator? If yes, what's your impression? If you still have the resonator I'll buy it.

4 year old thread dude. Anyhow my 944S is missing its resonator and has a stock 944 8v muffler on it and there is zero performance difference. The sound is has a little more rasp to it, and I actually like it.
