I think one thing that hurts is that the photos appear to have been taken at different times, making people wonder what the real condition of the car is.

Also, why the is there a picture showing the front end of the car with all sorts of snow on the car? How hard is it to actually take a good photo that represents what you're really trying to show? The assumption by some may be that you're too lazy to clean the car a bit to take a good photo. If that's the case, what else has been neglected? Not trying to insult you - just advice for selling faster.

Photos of any and all "problem" areas might help as well.

Nick, I remember you were asking very reasonable prices for your S2s and how long it took to sell. I just wanted you to remind everyone how long it took back when money was plentiful and people were making millions overnight in real estate.

have you considered eBay or a local craigslist ad as an alternative in case the interest here is not as good ??

It's strange though...back then, the folks making all the money were buying more expensive P-cars...996's boxsters, etc

Now...they are mostly still buying those models because they've dropped so far in price....for the price of an average 968 you can get a well used 996 or 1st year boxster...which is probably a lot more car!

But there is something else going on too. Folks who had a nicer 996...like a college frat brother of mine...and had to sell it to pay bills after a layoff are now starting to think 944 or 928 when they ge back into a P-car.

I agree...with ebay you'll get your price.

Yes I agree people were buying 996's and I was even looking around for a ferrari 328 but opted to buy another house. Heck, people were having more kids a couple years ago in some kinda of psudo baby boom due to ideal economic conditions at that time from what I read. I was selling non S turbos with stock wheels for $6000 to $7500 3 years ago all day long. I just advertised an 86 951 for 2 weeks before I sold it 3 days ago for $4300 complete with 17" 993 wheels, 3 inch custom exhaust, uncracked dash with a nearly perfect interior, $5000 of receipts within the last 2000 miles including new waterpump, belts, steering rack, etc. I was asking $5900 WITH fuchs and LSD but had to sell the wheels and tranny separately and put in a 85k mile 951 tranny in place of the LSD tranny that came out of it. People back then were buying just about everything around here and every n/a I advertised for less than $2k sold like hotcakes. Now you see many of the same cars advertised for a quite a lot longer time and cars like 90s hondas have doubled in price in the last year (1990 honda accords used to sell at auctions for around $400 now are at almost $1000).

I am not saying his car is not what he is asking for nor that he will not sell it at his price. Every area has its own price structure. I just find it a little irritating that people speculate and debate that a car is worth a certain amount but no one puts up the $ to buy it. I agree with you ebay will probably be the best place as it gets you the most exposure and its probably be closest to the ACTUAL market price whether its lower or higher than what we think.

if i had 5500 i would have bought it already,

i dream of an S2 someday, they just seem like the best of the series to me

if the damage described is all that there is it seems like a bargain to me considering a perfect body one would go for 7 or 8k and still need service done

has the chain tensioner been replaced?

lol thanks guys. this is on turnpike south from I-80, coming home from work. that stretch of road has minimum cars going south, and i saw the shadow and pulled my phone out. it took 6 shots, cause i did not want take my eyes off the road (bad enough i had my phone out =/) i just aimed and clicked

986/996 they just made so damn many of them that they can't hold any value.
and there is a pretty common problem with rear main seals failing on those engines. if you want a 996 buy MY02 or later, the problem was addressed there.

yeah...I don't know about them "blowing up"...there are more than enough 996 and cayman track cars that if there were a problem....that's when they'd blow.

I do know there was a case issue on the early cars...but I think spencer is correct....too many made PLUS most purists never liked the funky 996 headlight shape...so it got po-po'd by the customer base.

Still a great car and now a great value too.....hence if you have money for a higher end 944 you are likely also looking at lower end 996's also.
