Ok. Turbos are all well and good - but I'm keen to hear about the MAF solution - not least because I've got a ford taurus MAF in the parts bin waiting to play with this solution.

Pics of the "restrictor" you're trying would be great

I'm pretty sure the NA crowd will love you for this one too

the restrictor is the brass thing with a little hole in the middle that is inside the MAF body circled in red

normally the hole to the MAF is alot bigger and is pretty much the entire volume of the little aluminum circle the brass is inside

The reason more people don't do this conversion on N/a is that there is not nearly as much potential for gains. On the turbos it dramatically increases spool times on n/as you may pick up 1-2hp so it is cost prohibitive.

yes but for impoved driveability and one less thing to adjust and better throttle response and a cost of about $50 why not? lol

I actually got my Ford MAF, nearly new for less than $10. Initially I was going to use it for my supercharger project, but it never worked right for stock, so it didn't seem to be a viable option.

I moved my thinking to the Microquirt, but that's more complex - you have to make some mods to the board just to get the trigger wheel to work over a 3k RPM. You can find justinl's posts on this over on the microsquirt forum if you search.

So now, a MAF plus a tuned restrictor and probably a piggy back to help tune the curve over the RPM range seems to be an option again.

I've decided to try getting the 2.7 pistons machined to dish the tops - much like those of the callaway turbo conversion (but that's off topic)

No decisions made yet, but I'm thinking that this would be worth checking out while still running NA before adding in the boost. Especially as I have the part in question on my shelf. Always curious to see if it is 1/2hp or more... (but I'm not Alina!!)

Might still go to Microsquirt with MAF/MAP blending in the end - but it's all about trying things to see what works.

Spencer I agree with you 100%, if you like tinkering than I guess it is worth it. If you guys can get this to work please let me know.

What is the flow of that meter you are using pound wise(the ford one)??

You do know the DME has trouble reading after 5Volts so that is the reason for going to a bigger MAF when modding.

I've been searching and have yet to find anyone that has any actual complete set up specs...Perhaps updates on current set ups and/or brick walls hit in the attempt.

because people are wondering and I like to tinker

this is a x post form the what did you do today

I tried Prossi's MAF restrictor today to see how it works. It does pretty darn good w/o a fuel controller. With a fuel controller, it seems it would work very well.

I used a GM AIT sensor as well. It made a nice difference in the drivablilty

This was on my black turbo car, I don't have an NA available right now to test on. When I get back to my 83 I will give more feedback

I didn't really do anything different except using the GM AIT

It is really easy to do

red 12v
2 center wires ground
last wire to the green/red wire on the AFM plug
GM AIT between the outside to pins on the AFM plug

I used a 1/8th inch pipe plug and drilled a hole in 3 different ones th hole is slightly smaller than 1/8".

I have bit of a different setup though so you should start with a small 1/16" hole then go up.
