I don't think he is going to have to worry about bumperpushing cars getting into parking spots on the street so I think he is ok.

I didn't realize it was a race car. I was only stating how much they do absorb from experience, but that wouldn't stop me from doing it on my car.

Low-speed collisions do happen.

I was in one a week or two ago. (Not driving the Porsche, thank Bob!)

Some mental titan was driving a manual while drinking coffee. Slams on the brakes right in front of me, very suddenly, probably because he was busy juggling wheel, stick, and cup.

I slam the brakes as well, but these are rental-Hyundai, not 951-turbo-reds. Slid, and hit.

Bumper shocks protected us both from any damage whatsoever. Hurray for bumper shocks.

I was thinking about removing the shocks and bumpers all together when I get to autocross. That is like a good 50 pounds or more. But I dont know if that would be aloud at autocross tho.

I always wondered why autocross/track guys didn't ditch the bumpers. They're heavy as hell, and of no particular use in that context. Other than the need to find another hard point for a tow hook, seems to me that you could save 75 lbs by swapping in flimsy, cosmetic pieces.

good idea in theory but it would be the last place i would look for weight reduction. In racing ive seen compressed shocks save plenty of peoples butts just about every weekend. Id rather just pull out a shock than have to deal with a mess of bent metal.
