Default How to save 12 lbs (remove bumper shocks)

Perhaps I'm going a little crazy with the weight savings ideas... but what the hell.

I had both bumpers off the car and realized that all 4 bumper shocks weigh 15 lbs. Seems like useless weight to me, so I spent a little time on the lathe and mill and made a set of aluminum mounts. The pictures pretty much tell the story - final weight of the four aluminum mounts combined: 2.5 lbs.

Those look very very nice but wouldn't have you achieved the same thing with standard euro mounts? (assuming that turbo front mounts are different like N/A)

Were the stock mounts 15lbs/piece, or 15lbs/total (i.e. ~3lbs/each)?

Weight savings is the cheapest HP you can get. I would LOVE a set of those things. Maybe pull the front bumper in 3/4 of an inch.

now you can teach those other cars not to F with you because you will win every time lol

i like the idea and look of these but if i were making such a thing id build in a sort of crush-tube so that they could be lightweight but still absorb an impact and be sacrificial to protect the chassis

They will save your bacon even in 30 mph impacts. It really makes a difference in the shock to rest of the body and frame.

Oh, I believe the shocks will do a good job minimizing damage in low-speed collisions. But, in a race car, saving weight is paramount (and if you hit, you usually hit big - in which case the shock absorbers won't help much).
