Default did i order the wrong wheel bearing? (pic)

hey guys, I havent been around much. been working on other things in life but i finally have some time to work on the 944. so tonight i was going to try to get the front suspension and my new manual rack put onto the shell.

I ordered new front bearings from 944online and they showed up yesterday. I quickly noticed that something didnt look right. the old outer bearing i took out when removing the hub is kind of a cone shaped bearing. the new one is not that shape at all. theyre not even the same size really.

did i order something wrong or did i label my little baggie wrong? im not usre whats up. I looked in my factory manual and the diagram of the hub does not show any cone shaped bearing... so did i originally have the wrong on installed or something?

here the pic of the old bearing and the new one.

The new bearing includes the race for the front hub, you can replace the race if the old one is damaged, or just throw it away, open up the new bearing package and the race will be a separate part from the bearing itself...

+1, I'm doing the same thing right now. The other half of the wheel bearing is in the hub still. They're a bear to get out, but somewhat easier to get in (have one hub 'cooking' in the oven right now in fact..).

Yes, open the package or wiggle it around inside the plastic and youll see a shiny new part that looks like the old one, then a concave cone of steel that it fits into. The concave bit goes into the hub.

Other than lack of engine YES, I had the entire intake side of the engine pulled apart, front bumper cover in pieces, header off, inter cooler off, WP off, belts off, starter off (for flywheel lock), ENTIRE front suspension off, PS system all off, hatch off and in pieces..

Got her back together in less than 24 hours (county was threatening to load up and impound).. I was a wrench turning fool...

You have your hands full, especially with the addition of the engine being out.... good luck, hope it all goes back together and gets on the road quickly, with no annoying failures in the near future (1 week after I went and put it back together I blew out the lower coolant hose... still waiting for my new hose set from a vendor not to be named... Considering pulling the hose off the N/A tomorrow to get the Turbo back on the road...

The inner (roller) part of the bearing is cone shaped. Take the extra time and effort to replace ALL the bearing parts. Make sure you adjust it properly then recheck it after driving a bit. It WILL need to be readjusted. Where did you order them ? I actually got mine at my local Auto Zone. Suprizingly, they can get a lot of parts for our cars.
